KEEP ME POSTED RESPONDS TO THE ABANDONMENT OF THE ONLINE FARM PAYMENT SYSTEM TO PROCESS EU PAYMENTS FOR FARMERS

Keep Me Posted has responded to the Rural Payment's Agency decision today to allow farmers to submit their applications for money from the Basic Payments Scheme on paper. Judith Donovan CBE, Chair of the Keep Me Posted Campaign, said:

“Our campaign has long been aware of the pressure on people in rural communities, particularly farmers, to ‘go digital’, despite the fact that many lack adequate broadband access. Moving the applications process for EU farming subsidies system entirely online excluded many farmers from being able to claim the assistance they were entitled to.  We understand this is already impacting take up.

“While we welcome the move to allow farmers to continue to apply by paper for now, we call on the Government to give a long term commitment to allow farmers the choice submit their applications by post or online in future.”
