For the 8th year in a row, consumers have voted energy suppliers as one of the worst offenders for getting bills wrong, according to new research by USwitch. Keep Me Posted's own research has shown people are more likely to spot an error by reading a paper bill than scrutinising it online.

Judith Donovan CBE, Chair, of the Keep Me Posted campaign, adds: “The Uswitch research echoes our own, which found that 30 per cent had found an error on their energy bill, with 28 per cent saying they had been overcharged. Keep Me Posted is urging energy providers to give consumers the choice of receiving paper statements which has been proven to help consumers manage their finances more effectively. For many, the arrival of a letter on the doormat is a welcome prompt to consider and act on their bills in a timely manner - our research showed 41% (two out of five) have noticed an error on a posted paper energy bills compared to those who check online (29%), and with the level of inaccuracy exposed by Uswitch, it is more important than ever that people can choose to keep paper bills without penalty.”
